A plea for help from Zimbabwe I live in Zimbabwe and have been involved in trying to stop the destruction of Harares wetlands. They are supposed to be protected under a government gazette but construction on them is going ahead and almost all of the remaining wetlands are now under serious threat. These wetlands form the headwaters to the catchment of the rivers which feed into Harares main water supply dams. They also are important bird areas. Harare is facing severe water scarcity already and it is ludicrous to be destroying the main sources of not only our water reservoir (Lake Chivero), but also our ground water which many people rely on as there is no municipal water and people use their boreholes. It really is an environmental disaster and the loss of water is disastrous ecologically as well as in terms of human rights. I have started petitions on Avaaz and Change. Would you be able to help circulate it please?
