A poem by My Granddad Aspects of Lincoln Cathedral Come stand by the pool called Brayford mdear Look to the North when the aire limpid clear Your heart will rejoice at the sight of the crown That glories the brow of Lincolns brave town. Or come from the east by the arrow-straight way When the sun is a halo near the end of the day See an anthem in stone up flung to the sky Enduring, uncounting as the years sidle by The road from the west is awandering one Glimpses of majesty, fleeting then gone. As it winds to the hill that the pilgrims must climb to seek reassurance of the things beyond time. Theres choir boy and tourist and cleric and lay And occasionally someone just wanting to pray A motley of future like banners unfold But Cathedral stands waiting For the end of the world. By Ronald Bishop He worked most of his life in the steelworks and i wish i had known him better, however his poems inspire me and make me proud of him.
