A police inspector, identified as Kolapo Lasisi, was killed on Tuesday evening by irate youths in Oke-Odan area of Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, over alleged killing of one Yinka Falola. The entire town was thrown into confusion as residents scampered for safety when the youth engaged the police and the state security outfit - OP MESA in a crossfire. Nigerian Tribune learnt that problem started on Monday when Falola, a police officer attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FED-SARS) from Zone II, Onikan, Lagos, Inspector Olusesan Sounde, allegedly fired and killed the 30-year-old man. The angry youth also set two police vehicles ablaze and vandalised 12 others. Sounde was reported to have slapped Falola who was returning from his farm, while the deceased retaliated. Sounde, infuriated by the development, shot at Falola in the neck and he bled to death before any medical attention could be given. Eyewitnesses told the Nigerian Tribune that Falola was not a smuggler as claimed by Sounde. He said: Yinka was never a smuggler. He was a commercial driver. He had altercations with the SARS who were on illegal checking and the policeman slapped him and he retaliated and the policeman fired at close range, killing him instantly. The OP MESA who raced to the scene to control the situation from getting out of hand were attacked by the youths. Inspector Lasisi was said to be running away from the wrath of the angry youth when he got drowned in the swamp where he died. When contacted, the commands Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, but added that the police inspector was killed by the angry youth.
