A post I wrote long ago, but felt I wanted to share my peace on the whole parent/friend idea... "A promise to my children, as long as I live, I am here to be your parent *and* your friend. I will be there for you, listen to you, respect you on your life’s journey. I will hold you when you cry, or give you your space if that is what you are needing. I will guide you through your problems, even when one of your problems may be that you broke my favorite glass sculpture. I will never be a source of fear for you, but a safe haven that you can trust in. I will never stalk you, spy on you or read your diary, trusting that if you need to talk to me you will. I will try not to be a source for your low self esteem issues, but know, if I make mistakes I will always apologize for my wrong doings. I am your parent, but if you see me as your friend too, I know I am doing my job right!"
