A post in the New York Times by David Leonhardt on whether “College Is Worth It” (that a student is likely to more than recoup what he or she pays in tuition and fees many times over) is being covered in many media outlets this week. Some coverage goes so far as to say that it isnt the divide between the 1% and the rest of us that is causing inequality in America, but the divide between those with a degree and those without. Demos blogger Mark Huelsman points out a four-year college degree is absolutely worth it relative to a high school diploma—in wages, employment prospects, democratic participation, and even health, but that Leonhardt makes assumptions that dont hold up.
