A prominent businessman attends a local worship service on a daily basis. While others leisurely listen to the pastor, this businessman was writing away in his notebook. One person asked his bodyguard why his boss was like that every Sunday. He replied, “My boss studies these notes carefully and applies them so diligently throughout the week.” Talk about taking God’s word seriously. However, shouldn’t we do the same? In Psalm 119:15-16 (New Living Translation), it says: “I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word.” To hear God’s word is good. To even take notes and memorize it is better. To apply it in our life is what God’s intended purpose is. Meditating on God’s word brings our whole being into applying it in our daily lives. Applying it puts the truth in motion. People need to see the Bible verses in action. We may not be preachers who give sermons. But our life is a living sermon that others may learn from.
