A purple Lamborghini has been seized by police in London for driving without insurance. The Aventador, worth at least £260,000 before any modifications, could even be scrapped as part of the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Cubo. In fact, the glow-in-the-dark Lambo, painted vivid purple and red, may already be on its way to the crusher. Our man Tim Pollard spotted the distinctive Lamborghini on the back of a flat-bed truck at 8am this morning in Victoria, London, being moved from New Scotland Yard where it has been on display as a warning to future would-be illegal drivers. The Middle Eastern-registered car isn’t the only exotic car being taken by the cops. “We’ve had Porsches, BMW X5s and a Ferrari – that one got crushed and in fact the vast majority are,” said a Met Police spokesman. During the summer, London swarms with supercars as Middle East residents escape the summer heat. It is a craze that was captured on the Channel 4 documentary Millionaire Boy Racers, which showed mostly rich young men attracting the attention of residents and police with their fast and loud cars. Many arrive in the UK without the proper paperwork and insurance and the Met Police is clamping down. To date Operation Cubo has seized more than 10,000 cars since October 2011.
