A quick note: The Mason County Sheriffs Departments Humvees are in use for disaster response and emergencys, they are not Up armored in anyway in fact the doors and roof are only fabric. They do not provide any offensive capability; this is not a tank, not a mine resistant vehicle that you have seen recently on the news. However the Humvees that MCSO does have can travel in snow, ice, mud, they can cross flooded creeks that normal police vehicles would not. They can carry disaster supplies if needed, carry medical personnel, and rescue people. During the past harsh winter the vehicles were used to provide aid to stranded motorists, used to transport medical staff. Natural disasters occur in our area, from floods to tornados to ice and snow, with this equipment deputys will always be able to help the citizens of Mason County no matter what conditions affect our area at no added cost to taxpayers.
