A quote from the Wall Street Journal about why Natural Gas prices are going up in BC. "Natural gas costs fluctuate depending on market conditions," said Des Brisay. "Over the past year, North American market prices have recovered from the depressed levels seen in early 2012 due to increased demand, a colder winter and a slowdown in production growth. These higher costs are requiring us to raise commodity rates. At the same time, delivery costs for some customers will be decreasing following a recent review by the BCUC." And a quote from FortisBC regarding their request to amalgamate their utilities. Fortis says the decision wasn’t in the best interests of customers and Island and Sunshine Coast customers missed on a potential for a significant reduction in rates. "If the application had been approved residential customers on Vancouver Island would have seen about a 25 per cent decrease in their rates, and that includes the Sunshine Coast (and Powell River), and customers in the rest of the province would have seen about a 5 per cent increase," she says. I know the company I represent is the least expensive option. However, I am merely putting this information out so you my friends can make an informed decision.
