A rare Todi from Talwandi Gharana of Dhrupad singing: Ustad - TopicsExpress

A rare Todi from Talwandi Gharana of Dhrupad singing: Ustad Mehar Ali Khan (1913-1976) was one of the last doyens of the Talwandi Gharana of Dhrupad singing in North Indian classical music. Various traditions in Dhrupad are basically interconnected and associated with the Dagar Bani. The major Dhrupad Gharanas to the eastern part of India are Dharbanga, Betia and Vishnupur. In the western part of the sub-continent, it is Talwandi Gharana and after the partition of India in 1947, all the exponents of this tradition were living in Pakistan. Due to many socio-political reasons, this particular school of Dhrupad singing could not cultivate more practitioners in the recent times. Here is a rare rendering of Raga Todi by Ustad Mehar Ali Khan and according to ‘thuryina’ who uploaded this track on youtube, this was recorded in 1961. youtube/watch?v=jUT0uRLmsxQ&feature=related Have a nice day...
