A really exciting element of The BIG gig was the debut performances of our all original set. HILLTOWN- Blues song which came out of Paul trying to persuade Andy to do a recording at the Hilltown hall over one of Andys old blues riffs. Paul and Andy had done two successful Hilltown balls in recent years so there was a strong sentimental connection. The dream was realised on Pauls birthday this year. An Arabic riff emerged late in rehearsals and takes the song on a musical adventure before resolving back in the Blues GYPSY - Paul woke up from a dream and wrote the words and later found they worked really well with one of Andys blues rock riffs. I bought myself a long black hearse, its lyin in the junk of my backyard, I built myself a juke joint there, invited all my ghosts to dance with me, Shes a gypsy, wandering child (check out the video on our page). debuted at Barossa Blues festival 2013. STRANGE- short for strange people living in strange towns, a travellin song which saw the birth of Dirty Country and is further enhanced by Andys surf riff and Eddies driving shuffle STAND UP- a song begun when Paul lived in Pukatja/Ernabella. Aboriginal Ska style. About doing the right thing even when its hard. Got that happy uplifting feeling that Ska does so well. Paul recently recorded this song with his old band Salmagundi in Brisbane. 165 BPM CATCH THIS WAVE-Andy was in a quiet place several years ago when the main riff emerged. Recording it on the iMac garage band at Pauls in 2013 the original working title was Andy and de Blues. Amazing guitar work. Zeppliny bits. premiered at Blues in the Barossa. ALL ABOUT THE WOMAN- Listening to one of Eddies old Steve Gadd drum workshop DVDs Paul asked Eddie if he could do a similar style groove on the drums. Eddie duly started with a rolling shuffle. Jon Chen, bass player extraordinaire, began a funky blues thing that forms the melodic basis of the song. The next day throughout 18 holes of golf neither Paul nor Eddie could get the song out of their heads. Its all about the woman, its all about you baby, you gotta bring it to your mama, bring it to your sister, all of you others can Hasta ma la Vista JAMESTOWN-a town whose name is deliciously close to James Brown was coming up soon as Paul and Andy drove towards Orroroo for a gig. As he passed the Bundaleer forest Paul grabbed the iPad and recorded the basic vocal melody for the song. its a big bad brassy funky soul thing with Andys George Harrison style riff. FUNKY soul. Oh baby do me right
