A recent write that was picked up by the media.. This article was done by not just any fan but a friend! I am oh so proud to say I know them.. Give this a read, share it to your wall, it is the absolute truth! -Noc Don’t Judge Us Until You Have Walked in Our Footsteps — Twisted sensationalism targets first responders! Lately there seems to be a lot in the news of the media “exposing” EMS providers for things they’ve posted on Facebook and other social media. While I am the first to say that people need to watch what they post, since it can be used against them, let me just say this: I know personally some of the people who have had media use things against them by omitting or twisting facts to craft a story that fits their agenda. To those who feel it is appropriate to resort to this type of “journalism”, I offer the following:Until you’ve had to wash a child’s blood out of your clothes- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve tried to breathe life into a child who’s parent left him alone in the bathtub for “just a minute”- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve felt the last beat of someone’s heart falter under your fingers- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve told a young wife there is nothing you can do for her brand new husband- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve opened a closet door and found a teenager who couldn’t take the bullying hanging from his belt- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve watched a burning ceiling take your partner from right beside you- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve pulled the bodies of lifeless children out of a burning house- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve put handcuffs on the wrists of a person who murdered your brother officer and tried to do the same to you- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve cut an entire family out of the crushed hulk of their car, only to watch the drunk driver who killed them walk away free courtesy of a skilled lawyer- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve recovered the bodies of your friends when their helicopter went down in the fog- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve stood in -20 weather for hours with your turnout gear frozen solid trying to keep a family from losing their home- Don’t judge us.Until you’ve walked in to your station, knowing several of your brothers and sisters won’t ever walk through that door again- Don’t judge us.Until you have watched the blank stare of a child who has been beaten and raped repeatedly- Don’t judge us.Until you know the joy of guiding a new life into the world- Don’t judge us.Until you know the feeling of watching a lifeless heart beat again- Don’t judge us.Until you watch someone you pulled from a horrific wreck walk out of the hospital- Don’t judge us.Until you lay down to bed and know that were it not for you, another family would be planning a funeral instead of a wedding- Don’t judge us.Until you are willing to lay down your life for brothers, sisters, and people you have never met- Don’t judge us.Until you have walked a mile in our boots, seen the things we will see every time we close our eyes, hear the things that will echo in our ears forever, felt the things that will weigh on our hearts until their last beat, know the things that will haunt us in our dreams, and sacrificed a portion of our souls all in the service of others, don’t judge us, because you do not and cannot understand us.We aren’t perfect- far from it. We are ordinary people called upon to do extraordinary things. Things that take a toll on us.Yes, we have flaws and weaknesses. But often there is a reason behind the things we say and do. Stress, frustration, anger, grief, sorrow, pain, guilt and remorse are our constant companions. So are joy, satisfaction, a sense of purpose and accomplishment.Society cannot function without us, yet these days it rushes to condemn us. The rush to judgement for the sake of a storywithout giving pause to consider the person and the experiences they have had that may have led them to do something you disapprove of is not journalism. When you report one side of a story, you are not reporting the news, you are making it. It is disrespectful, dishonest and sensationalism. Don’t judge us – We deserve better. We have earned better. We demand better. – NS
