A relationships that is held loosely, with respect and freedom for the other person, it is likely to remain intact. But hold too tightly, too possessively, and the relationship slips away and is lost. If we deny love that is given to us, and if we refuse to give love because we fear pain or loss, then our lives will be empty, and our loss greater, we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught. Love is not automatic. It takes conscious practice and awareness.
