A rental van with 4 males was seen at lower river Girvan today, 3 of the males were fishing. When approached by a river warden for permits, the warden was intimodated and verbally abused. On liasing with other wardens and the head bailiff, the police were notified. After some time questioning the men, more police arrived. The men from the Glasgow area as it transpired were fishing illegally. The 3 men who were fishing have each been charged with, poaching, gang poaching and fishing without written permission. An estimated £1700 worth of fishing equipment was confiscated by officers from Police Scotland and they were lucky not to have the rental van removed as well. However there may well be other charges to follow as they were at the stinchar yesterday. A good result and well done to all involved. The river is constantly watched more than it ever has been in the past by wardens and bailiffs alike. This hopefully will serve as a reminder.
