A round-up of news and views relating to Liverpool over the past 24 hours. Brendan Rodgers is confident that Daniel Agger will not try and force a move to Barcelona this summer, and expects the defender to stay at the club. "Daniel has given me his word that he loves Liverpool and I will expect him to be here," Rodgers is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror. "He had chances to leave, but told me as long as we wanted him here, then he wanted to stay.” Steven Gerrard has said he will do anything he can to convince Luis Suarez to stay at Liverpool this summer, but admits that he does not know whether the striker with still be at Anfield at the end of the transfer window. Daniel Sturridge scored twice in a behind closed doors friendly against Newcastle today as he moved closer to match fitness ahead of Liverpool’s first game of the season against Stoke this weekend. Liverpool will reportedly rival Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Willian, who could be available this summer due to the Russian side’s financial turmoil. Anzhi signed Willian for £32million in January, but could be prepared to sell the Brazilian playmaker in order to help slash their budget. Another player apparently on Liverpool’s radar is PSG defender Mamadou Sakho, with reports that the Reds have made an £8million bid for the 23- year-old. Sakho is available after PSG signed Marquinhos from Roma, and is keen to play first team football ahead of next year’s World Cup. After completing his move to Bolton Jay Spearing has said that he had to leave Liverpool for the sake of his career. The 24-year-old made only 45 starts since his Liverpool debut in 2008, and impressed on loan at Bolton last season, winning the club’s player of the year award. West Ham have completed the £6million signing of Stewart Downing, with the winger agreeing a four-year deal with the Hammers. Downing was not expected to be part of Rodgers’ plans at Liverpool this season, and could play in West Ham’s first game of the season against Cardiff. Liverpool have apparently entered the race for Manchester City winger Scott Sinclair, who had looked set to join West Brom on loan. Manchester City signed Sinclair from Swansea City last summer, but the 24-year-old rarely featured under Roberto Mancini, and is unlikely to fare any better under new manager Manuel Pellegrini
