A sad Shabbat. Ernie Banks was my #1 childhood hero. I have long used his response to Hey Ernie, its a beautiful day for a ball game! (Lets play two!) in my teaching about God and the creation prayers. I had the fantastic fortune to be stuck waiting for the same delayed plane with him and 8 others in the Omaha airport in the winter of 1987 and had a chance to talk to him about it. He said I totally got it. When we are blessed with a beautiful day, we show appreciation by celebrating and doing what we loved. And he LOVED the game of baseball. Everyone who ever lived in Chicagoland (at least the north siders) will miss you Ernie. #JEDLAB
