A sharks tale...or tail.. ShaneH said: So here I am, minding my own business, just having a quiet fish out by Aeroplane Island off Kapiti Island, and the rod goes mental (k-labs IM6 paired with a Daiwa AIRD Costal 100HA with 15lb braid). It catches me out to the point that I somehow manage to break off the butt end of the rod!. Never mind....this feels like something huge that I have not experienced since 2013 and my very first kingi..except...this is a nod, nod...DIVE!!...nod, nod...DIVE!!! For 15 minutes...we go at it, and eventually I see the beast..its a horse of a snapper!! Its the biggest one I have ever seen in real life, and its all mine!..and WTF am I going to do with it when I get it yak-side!!! Oh...whats that behind it? Thump...and half my snapper is gone in one foul bite by a shark thats about 2/3 the length on my PF400 Lite. Yes, after it relieved me of half MY snapper, it came up for a quick gloat, then buggered off and went looking for spearfish divers. Adjusting for fishermans exaggeration and refraction of the water...locals reckon it might have been a mako looking at the size of the single bite. The inconsiderate sod managed to not get the gut cavity, and just got the best bit off the end!! My useless digital kitchen scales only go to 4kg, but the remains are more than that, and theres plenty of fillet left for a couple of meals. Anyone care to guestimate what I would have been looking at for a whole fish? Any anyone got any ideas on how to fix the rod? Its hollow, so Im thinking an insert of a piece of CF tube and some resin. Thoughts? Join in the discussion here: ift.tt/1z9qXoL
