A shine blocker is that person who just cant be happy for you in your best moments. The homeboy whos more likely to make a face than offer a high five or knucks when you him her youre launching a new business, getting married or having a baby. Shine blocker. There couldnt have been a better description. I had a friend who was so frustrated with his dating/relationship drought that he couldnt be happy Id met a nice woman. Rather than deal with a grimace and resting b**** face look every time her name came up, I stopped talking about my relationship with him altogether, which didnt exactly bring us closer together or strengthen the blood brother bond. Ive never ended a friendship because of a shine block, but it has certainly shaped the information I share with different people and how I choose to share it. Get in where you fit in like Too Short said. Its just as important to celebrate victories in life as it is to support each other in times of need, right? Dont be an emotional vampire OR a shine-blocker. If you are shine blocking and a potential hater, consider these advantageous techniques: 1. Its kind of like smiling when you feel like crap. Fake it til you actually feel it. Celebrate their success, and eventually that positive energy will feel genuine. Positivity is after all, contagious right San Diego? 2. Embrace their success as your own (while giving them the room to soak up the spotlight) by becoming a part of the celebration. Help throw his bachelor party. Help throw the baby shower. Offer to shop for office supplies for her new job. Bonus: That friend will want to offer to return the favor when your moment comes around. One hand washes the other CUZ! 3. And perhaps most importantly, learn from your jealousy. Understand why youre jealous so you can channel it into positive energy. If youre envious of your friend for starting fitness company, a clothing company, a taco shop, maybe thats because youve been wanting to start your own business, too. Take that energy youre expending on jealousy to figure out how you can start something inspiring in your life, too. Take it from OG X TRIPLE FFF
