A short history of two decades of warnings about staying out of, or in, sunlight. Get plenty of sun. Wait, stay out of the sun. Wear a hat, wear sunscreen, cover your arms, hide from the sun. The sun will give you skin cancer and youll die a terrible and painful death. Oh, just in - take off your hat and sunscreen and get five minutes of sun. But not in the middle of the day. Or whenever the sun is hottest. A little sunlight is good, after all. Actually, make that ten minutes of sun light, not at the hottest part of the day, but when the sun is still pretty well directly overhead. But wear a hat for the rest of the day. Or most of it. New research indicates sunlight make actually keep skin cancer at bay, even help to heal it. Sorry, can we change that again? Not ten minutes, fifteen minutes. Good solid sunlight, now, without your hat and sunscreen. How about 20 minutes of sunlight? Yeah. Sounds good. Lets go with twenty minutes. Make up your freaking minds! Anyway, besides all that, good news for lovers of the sun. Vitamin D is created by the action of sunlight on the skin... The malign consequences have been revealed by in a study from the United States which shows that boosting vitamin D may be the most effective way of warding off infections that cause winter colds.
