A short story called Volemageddon or Why Crime Doesnt Pay- We have night visitors. They scurry across the roof tugging out the insulation like thieves tearing the lead from a church roof. They rustle through the plastic sacks on the floor and nibble at the ends of our butter. We found one once, trapped in a card board box, washing his face anxiously and waiting for the benevolent giants to tip him out to freedom. Last night things took a dark turn. Our visitors pilfered the entire contents of a packet of ramen noodles through a hole nibbled in the corner and stashed them away with the rest of their swag. But did they read the cooking instructions? I doubt it. Once eaten, those appetising crispy curls will balloon into stomach bursting ramen spageghetti. There will be a localised vole catastrophe. Lifes tough here on the Yukon and perhaps thats just what you get for taking things without asking. (They were smart enough to leave the sachet of beef flavoured MSG, in case you were wondering.)
