A short update on The Padre....many of you already probably keep up with him much better than I, and already know this....I was able to spend a day with him at St. Thomas Aquinas College. He of course lives in one of the dorms (Room #12...which has a great quote)....has a refrigerator (but doesnt keep it stocked like at USF). His wit is as dry as Southern CA, and as sharp as ever (the poor freshman that sat with us at breakfast...)...more importantly, as he is about to enter his 90th year...he seems as robust as when I was in his classroom 20 years ago. Sharp as a tack, walks a little slower (without cane), still drives (though not as much, lucky for us), and has a special drink at a fancy bar in Ojai that the bartender knows to make him...while the school has a total of 4 chaplains, he still is non-stop busy with Mass (Latin on Fridays), confessions (theres was a long line...), and checking in on the sick and homesick. It was great to see him...and see him doing so well. I mean, he was as old as dirt 20 years ago I thought....I am glad I made the beautiful drive to see him and the beautiful school.
