A short video of ongoing Gadhi Mai Mela(festivity). Held every 5 years, it is the most animals sacrificed festivity at one single place. About 250 thousands animals including 18000 buffaloes were sacrificed on previous festival in 2009. The place where this festival happens is in Bariyarpur, Bara district of Nepal. Observed for a month, the Nov 28 is the most prominent one, when after a special prayer and human blood and other 5 sacrifices offered to The Goddes Gadhi by the main priest on mid night earlier, the sacrifice of the buffaloes and calf take place throughout this whole day. The next day sacrifice of other animals like goats, pigeons and other cattle is done. The devotees believe that this sacrifice pleases the Goddess Gadhi and in turn their wishes are accomplished by the Goddess. Due to the brutal killing of innocent animals and the hazards that it brings and may bring on human health and mentality, it is supposed to be inhumane and strongly opposed by many, nationally and across the world. The only way to bring such killings to low is to involve the locals themselves without hurting the feelings of the devotees and enforcement of laws and legal provisions about animal quarantine stringently.
