A simple reminder to be careful when donating on funds set up on Facebook, you have no idea if said funds are legit. The anonymity of the internet opens the door to vast amounts of fraud which is often unprosecuted. Simply because the media says a Facebook was set up by the family is not verification. The media often makes these assumptions when they see a Facebook set up for a missing person without verifying. I have seen pages claimed to be set up by the family but they were actually run by unknown third parties. The families had had participated with the pages and approved the funds thinking the page admins would send the donations to them but in the end never received one penny and were left feeling scammed.
