A slight departure from the usual posts, China is bending rules - TopicsExpress

A slight departure from the usual posts, China is bending rules behind the international sea treaties to expand its territory, much like Russia has done with Ukraine, but much more subtly. If a country owns a piece of land, it owns the territorial and economic rights within 200 miles out to sea of its sea border. If you want more sea ownership, build an island on the edge of your 200 mile boundary, and under current treaty definition, you can stack on an extra 200 miles for the mere cost of building an island... In return you get all the mineral and fishing rights for the extra 10,000 square miles (or so) that youve sea-grabbed. Maps / geography is being reformed before our eyes. un.org/depts/los/convention_agreements/convention_overview_convention.htm
