A small challenge: Close your eyes and visualise your home without the presence of your Mom (I’m extremely sorry for the ones who have lost their Mom). Not more than 10 seconds you will be able to hold your eyes closed, I bet. I opened at 5. അമ്മ ഒരു സംഭവം തന്നെയാ, അല്ലേ! A big salute to all Moms (not only the ones consecrated through Matrimony but also the ones consecrated to Christ religiously; I cordially remember all such latter Moms whom I visited during last Xmas holidays- the ones at Rome, Corato & Pescara). Anyway, today’s gospel introduces to us a Mom, the Mom in law of Simon. She was bed stricken with fever. Jesus came to Simon’s house and healed her. All these facts are familiar to us. What surprised me is this verse: “The fever left her & she began to serve them” (Mark 1: 31). I’m pretty sure that Simon’s wife was also there in that house though the gospel doesn’t mention her. And naturally our Mom should say her daughter to serve them. But gospel testifies that she served them herself though she had just recovered from her illness. Moreover we also see the lively moments & movements that happen in the house after she recovered her health. Many from the village visited that house & got healed the very day. ശരിക്കും അമ്മ ഒരു സംഭവം തന്നെ! Let us learn from this Mom. The readiness to serve Christ without knowing him to be God is simply exceptional. Many Christ do visit our homes too. Though we don’t realise them to be God, we should learn to serve them selflessly. Once again salute you, MOMS! Today’s gospel – Mark 1:29-39 (Calendar Western) 14/01/15 Thy Kingdom Come (284*)
