A small rant to dog owners from a dog owner... As a multiple dog owner myself, I do my very best to control my dogs in the presence of people and other dogs, I work patiently with my dogs to keep their barking to a minimum so not to annoy my neighbors, and most importantly... I always pick up my animals feces if they have done their business where other humans might happen to visit, even it it means walking back to my truck for a bag or paper towel. So my issue, question, pet peeve, point of contention, frustration and outright disdain for fellow dog owners comes down to this. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG WHEN HE/SHE TAKES A DUMP???!!! This past weekend, I spent time at the Freezeout Lake Wildlife Management Area and was appalled at the countless piles of poop that were everywhere from the trails, to the parking lots, to the fields. Really??? Is it that hard to be responsible????? And people who own dogs wonder why non-dog-owners get so upset. Sure, there were no trash cans, but carry some small plastic baggies. For $1.97 you can get 20 small trash bags at your local discount store. Put them in your vehicle, then, (here is what seems to be the hard part) PICK-UP AFTER YOUR DOG(S) AND THEN TAKE THE BAG WITH YOU TO THE TRASH BIN. I know that those down wind of me were wondering what the smell was, but when Raven decided it would be a good idea to do her business 1/2 a mile from the truck, I did what every responsible dog owner should do. I took out my plastic bag, picked up her poop (it never touched my hand) and I put it into my coat pocket and took it back to my truck so I could throw it out when I got to a trash can. Yes, I carry a small container of hand cleaner, and no... I am not special or gross, just responsible! And if you must know, I picked up many more piles than my single dog placed and yes -- I picked up ALL of hers as well. :-) So come on fellow dog owners get real and get it done. End of rant...
