The Christchurch Cathedral can be restored. With insurance settlement and private funding, no rate payer contributions are needed. For the money available, no new replacement Cathedral will be able to match the character and substance of this restored icon. The resources for contributions to restore the Cathedral would not compromise any other social priorities for Christchurch. The Cathedral can be restored to meet the highest Safety Code required for public buildings in New Zealand. It can be fully restored in 5-7 years.
