A speech made last night to APS board of Education. Did board - TopicsExpress

A speech made last night to APS board of Education. Did board members truly listen? We will see. FYI This is what I said at the APS Board meeting tonight. August 6, 2010 Dear Board members This is a copy of what I wrote and shared with you this evening: I am here today to ask you to issue a written, by grade level explanation of the standardized testing planned for our APS students this 2014-2015 school year. I am here today to ask you to behave honorably, to answer the series of half truths and half-explanations issued in the press and by the PED with facts, written accurate data about how our students will spend their school days. We deserve to know in a written letter issued to every APS student: 1) The number of school hours required for the administration of each test 2) How testing benefits the education of our students. 3) Who is mandating the testing. 4) The cost to tax payers for the administration of tests including the cost per test, and the cost of the technology required for test administration. 5) We, the parents of students in the APS system request that you authorize the teachers in our schools to discuss standardized testing practices with parents. Remove the threat of punitive actions that haunts our professional educators and affirm their integrity, ask them to be honest with us. We deserve the truth. 6) Inform us of the option to opt out, and protect students who do so in addition to protecting their teachers and schools. You, are accountable to this community and to the constituents who elected you. We need you to address our concerns directly and to keep us informed of how students will be spending their school days. Thank you for your consideration, Wendy Simms-Small
