A standing ‘Ovation’ for UC businesses, leaders Jay Albrecht 26 first-time winners honored by UCBJ readers Stand up and clap, Upper Cumberland. It’s time once again to honor this year’s Ovation Award winners. The awards, in their sixth year, are set to honor individuals, businesses or corporations that stand out from the pack. And the 2013 list, according to Liz Engel Clark, editor of the Upper Cumberland Business Journal, is among the most eclectic in history. Of the 33 winners, 26 are first-time recipients of the honor bestowed annually by readers of the UCBJ. “I was so excited by this year’s nominees,” Clark said. “We had a lot to work with, which gave us a chance to touch on several businesses – and business people – that we might have unknowingly overlooked before. And what’s even more exciting is those businesses had great stories to tell – they’re expanding or are seeing record growth, which is so important to highlight given the recent economic climate.” This year’s list again covers eight unique categories, including: - Favorite Retail Establishment - Excellence in Professional Services - Spirit of Entrepreneurship - Excellence in Manufacturing - Favorite Restaurant - Excellence in Tourism Promotion - Best Individual/Corporate Citizen and - Excellence in Business/Governmental Leadership The Ovation Awards were founded in 2008. Winners are nominated by UCBJ readers and selected by the UCBJ editorial staff.
