A status update by Brig (R) Samson Simon Sharaf, a senior member of PTI: "Today was a bad day. According to Intelligence sources, the KP Government had confirmed advance warning. Yet the entire hierarchy was in Islamabad for the PTI CEC meeting. How many tragedies will it take for this government to learn the Principles of War and spread the command structure to cater for eventualities? There was a mad rush of casualties at Lady Reading Hospital. It was Sunday and most of the staff was on call. It goes to the credit of the hospital that by 4 PM, scores of life saving surgeries had been performed. The entire staff was on toes. We made teams of volunteers to stay in touch with the families and ensure that all victims get best medical care. I visited every casualty and talked to the families. After the initial wailing, they had run out of tears and just gave blank looks. They were in shock. Local people moved very quickly for rescue. Over 400 PTI youngsters donated blood and the banks are full. The hospital has online oxygen for every bed. Absence of cylinders does not mean there is no oxygen. People also need to understand the difference between resuscitation and oxygen. The media and some opportunists confused the whole issue through ignorance. We had driven straight from Islamabad with the entourage of Chief Minister KP. Within half an hour, we were joined by IMran Khan and Jehanghir Tareen. But no political statements on the nature of conflict can remove the scars. These terrorists have been killing soldiers, people and destroying religious properties for over a decade. Yet why are we afraid to call it a conflict? Conquering fear is easier said than done. Within the Pakistani Construct, we Christians and all other Pakistanis carry the wounds and scars of a conflict.
