A stranded whale was refloated by rescuers after it landed on an Anglesey beach. Volunteers from the Anglesey-based Sea Watch Foundation were called to the beach at Newborough after initial reports that a porpoise had become stranded. Foundation director Dr Peter Evans, of Bangor University, believed it was a young pygmy sperm whale, approximately six foot in length. Dr Evans said: “Pygmy sperm whales are more common in the warmer waters off west Africa. They have been found increasingly in European waters in the past few years because of climate change. Bangor University marine biologist Amy Davies said: “It’s extremely rare in British waters. Only people who had dry suits were able to help it back into deeper waters. “We were called at around 10am and I left the beach at 3pm. It was stranded there and made several attempts to get out to sea. “It was pretty cold. It was a bit touch and go but it eventually found a way. Hopefully it won’t re-strand and we can rest easy.” dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/look-whale-rescued-after-getting-8146356
