A street resurfacing project is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, August 21-22, on Dry Hollow Road, from 9th through 19th Streets, and on Mt Hood Street from 10th to 23rd. City of the Dalles Public Works Department will be chip sealing the roads with the assistance of Wasco County. Beginning at 6 am on Dry Hollow each day, a layer of oil and rock will be applied to the street surface, followed by the same process on Mt Hood Street from mid-day until 6 pm. Dry Hollow Road will require a complete closure, including emergency vehicles, between 9th and 19th, for the first half of each day. For the work on Mt Hood Street in the second half of each day, pilot vehicles will be used along with rerouting of traffic. Detours around the work areas will be posted, and curbside parking cannot be allowed. Dusty conditions can be expected for 3 or 4 days while the rock becomes imbedded in the oil and cures into a sealed surface. During this time a 15 mph construction zone speed limit will be posted for two purposes – dust control and to avoid dislodging surface rock. For the safety of those working in the closed area, motorists are asked to drive cautiously and be alert to detour and warning signs. Questions can be directed to the Public Works Department at (541) 296-5401, extension 2001, or to the Transportation Manager at 506-2011.
