A stretch of Interstate 80 eastbound between Exit #53 (PA 338 – Knox) and Exit #60 (PA 66 – Shippenville) was shut down around 4:15 p.m. due to an accident involving a tractor-trailer fire near a bridge in the area of mile marker 55.2. Emergency officials say the tractor trailer was fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, but the roadway remains closed while PennDOT officials inspect the bridge. PennDOT officials confirmed that the roadway remained closed as of 10:35 p.m. “We are inspecting the bridge right now. If all is well with the bridge, it could be opened before midnight,” said Deborah Casadei, Public Information and Safety Press Officer for PennDOT District 10-0. Casadei said the bridge could be closed longer if inspectors discover any issues with the bridge. Photo by Lon Seigworth.
