A student has offered suggestions on how I might improve English class. (She is ESL, so I am hoping that explains some of this. But it did deflate my big head a bit as I was reading all of the tear jerking end of the year comments.) Enjoy: The assignments I like the least were the ones were we had to read old writings, poems, paragraphs, metaphors, all that kind of old texts and then we had to analyze; I had a lot of trouble doing that, I cannot analyze old English if I can barely analyze and understand modern English. I would not give any suggestions to change this assignments because that’s what we have to do in the English class, that’s what all the material talks about and I cannot change that, I can only say that, if there are other students that have the same problem as I do is that maybe make an easier text (paragraph, poem, writings) that have the same purpose than the normal assignments, and bit by bit those assignments can gradually get closer to the normal assignments. I did not like all of the tests either. We just had to take a lot of tests on capitalization and punctuation. I also thought we had to do a lot of writing in this class. I know we are supposed to write in English but it seemed like we really had to do so much of it. I especially did not like writing poems or essays. Maybe just have one big writing assignment each semester and do not do the research assignments at all.
