A study in the art of the ancients, Vratnica Tumulus, August 29, 2014. This terrace of artificially created megaliths, inclined significantly toward the tumulus center, was found by excavation beneath several meters of pure clay laid down by intelligent hands an estimated 30,000 years ago. This beautiful stonework, in other words, was never meant to be seen. The highly artistic megalithic terrace was not a path for walking on and admiring for its artistic beauty but a structural element of an artificial cone-shaped hill. This stone terrace was meant to keep the tumulus exactly where it is, in exactly the shape it is, for millennia - for reasons unknown. The dramatic texturing on the top layer of the two-layer stones is identical to the dramatic texturing on the top layer of the two-layer stones on similarly inclined terraces on the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon, 5 kilometers south of Vratnica Tumulus. What was the texturing for? Why did the ancients create two-layer stones? What were the channels between the stones for? For water? If for water, why did they place the stones beneath several meters of clay, which would keep water out? Why was it so important that the tumulus stay stable through the centuries? What were the ancients up to in this water-filled, mystery-filled, valley?
