A sublime, haunting cover of My True Love from The Kopit/Yeston - TopicsExpress

A sublime, haunting cover of My True Love from The Kopit/Yeston Version of PHANTOM - a stage musical adaptation of Phantom Of The Opera that had the misfortune to be written the same year as Lloyd Webbers blockbuster, and was eclipsed by it. A pity, as the score by Maury Yeston (best known for Nine) contains many gems like this and is generally much more true to the time period the story is set in than Lloyd Webbers was. The book by playwright Arthur Kopit also offers greater depth of characterisation, fleshing out the backgrounds of the various characters in much more detail - though on the negative side, its even less faithful to the novel than Lloyd Webbers extremely loose adaptation was, and it tones down the violence of the title character a great deal. Still, it is a work worthy of consideration, as is this singer, Destini Beard... if youve got time check out some of the other songs on her YouTube channel after listening to this, shes really quite talented. youtube/watch?v=7GGNqW3ROMw
