A superb effort from Edinburgh East...now the next phase begins and our immediate focus is to oust the British Unionist Labour MP Gilmore from our area. If you look at the following web site electoralcalculus.co.uk/conlist_scot.html you can see there is a real possibility to do this if we can get the YES campaign to keep its political alliances and put candidates up on the big prize independence ticket. One way of doing this is to vote SNP as Tommy Sheridan suggested. Another way would be to establish a YES alliance but use the political and community structures of YES campaign, Greens and SNP to achieve the aim of replacing all the British Unionist labour MPs. I am unsure about this 45 branding as it limits its appeal and not reflective of what it should be about. The inspiration of the YES campaign was its inclusive approach. The majority of NO voters were not bigoted loyalists (and I think we underestimated labour loyalty is deep and the scale of the small and big c conservative vote) and many wanted the same things as YES voters.. They got scared and we dared to dream wonderful possibilities. The campaign clearly exposed the inequality of corporate greed influence and power and the ability of the ruling powers to hold on to what it has. So the job is to convince those who need convincing that independence is actually the best way to achieve a fairer, more prosperous society and that voting for the British Unionist Labour party is only underpinning a corporate and political elite not interested in anything but themselves.
