A suspected thief who was found asleep in the kitchen of a pastor has been remanded in prison by the Madina Magistrate Court for unlawful entry and threat of causing harm. Pastor Daniel Asemtey and his family woke up to find the suspected thief, Kofi Adusei, asleep in their kitchen, with a pair of scissors and a kitchen knife in his hands. Adusei fell asleep as he attempted to steal from the pastor’s house. Presenting the facts of the case to the court, presided over by Mr Ernest Adjanor, Inspector Sophia Adamuwaah, the prosecutor, said Pastor Asemtey resides at Madina, a suburb of Accra, while Adusei is a car washing bay attendant resident of Korle-Bu, also in Accra. She said about 5:30 a.m. on August 11, 2013, Pastor Asemtey was preparing to go to church when he heard his son screaming in the kitchen. He, therefore, rushed to the scene, where he saw Adusei with a kitchen knife and a pair of scissors which he had picked from the kitchen. With the knife in his hand, the prosecutor said, Adusei threatened to stab anyone who came closer to him. According to the prosecutor, with help from his neighbours, the pastor was able to arrestAdusei and hand him over to the Madina Police. During interrogation, Adusei told the police that he got drunk and could not find his wayhome and mistakenly entered Pastor Asemtey’s house. He told the court later that he wanted to use the kitchen knife and the pair of scissors to steal from the pastor’s house but, to his surprise, he fell asleep and woke up the following morning.
