A team of the best consumer advocate groups have voice total opposition to the Comcast-Time Warner Cable deal. Free Press, Public Knowledge & Consumer Watchdog have called on the U.S. Federal Communications Commission & the U.S. Department of Justice or Federal Trade Commission to reject the deal. My take: After some very careful thinking & reading of various opinions, I do not support the Comcast/Time Warner Cable deal. This deal hurts customers of TWC & it hurts consumers who want an uncapped & fully accessible internet. When it comes to powerful alternatives? Dish & DirecTV are no competition when it comes to broadband access. Verizon has no interest in expanding FiOS internet. Google Fiber remains a pipe dream for most of the country. The vast majority of the United States doesnt have access to next-generation internet access. This deal has the potential to cripple the progress on the kind of internet well need for next decade & beyond. We need gigabit internet access in the US & the competition continues in cable, mobile, & internet to decline. This deal would be similar in scenario to AT&T & Verizon teaming up to reform the old AT&T monopoly. Its going to be a fight but it has to be done. I feel that Comcast/NBC/Universal is already a conflict of interest. Adding the millions of Time Warner customers turns Comcast/NBC/Universal turns this entity into a titan that can damage consumers of competitors. If enough voices express a deep concern, this can be killed just like AT&T/T-Mobile.
