A total 20 officers and personnel of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) involved in Ops Daulat were awarded the National Sovereignty Medal in conjunction with Warriors Day Wednesday. The recipients, headed by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Operations and Exercise Director-General, Brigadier General Datuk Affendi Buang, were awarded the medals by Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin. Zulkifeli said the medals were in honour of the officers and the rank and file who fought and made sacrifices on the front line to combat the intrusion of the Sulu terrorists last February. "The ceremony will be held in stages because almost 8,000 people were involved in Ops Daulat. The rest will receive their medals from the commanders of the three wings of ATM," he said after handing over the National Sovereignty Medal at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall Theatre, here Wednesday. He said the Army, Air Force and Navy would immortalise the Lahad Datu campaign on the respective colours of the teams involved in the operation.
