A truly sweet thing happened at Homework Plus today. Two older boys came in, seventh graders now, and said, Hey Miss Lynn, Do you remember me? Yes I remembered them, called them by name and even showed them some of their old art work still hanging on my wall. Both boys had started with me in the third grade and returned until the fifth grade (three years of knowing them), but now that they are so much older, they dont want to hang out in the kids room. They asked about the Presidents game, which I had put away because of the Summer PreK program. But when I pulled out the cards, they were able to put all the Presidents in order with just a little help--they proudly told me all they remembered about each President---especially the ones who died in office, which always a particularly favorite topic when we played the Presidents Game. And both remembered the map game. Even knew the Prime Meridian. When they left after clean up, they said see you tomorrow, but who knows. I am pleased to know that they are growing into respectful and intelligent young men---:-) If they do come back tomorrow, I will give them their journals to take home. Journals that they kept faithfully for three years. I like the idea of them being able to read what they wrote years ago. I think it may make them want to journal more.
