A very nice way for me to finish this wonderful year, last night I received the clients review for my last Collector Wildlife Series Flute of the year, a Ancient Giant Sequoia Black Bear Flute I made in low D minor. Here it is: JP,this 2000 years old Giant Sequoia flute body has attractive figure (pattern). The mouth piece and the end of flute each have 4 inlay bands of California Buckeye Burl, Yellow Cedar Burl wood and turquoise. The artistic lay out of a large beautiful Bear Paw with vivid blue Sleeping Beauty Turquoise inlay near the bottom with two smaller paws on each side of the body plus another paw on the back of the Bear’s head shows exacting craftsmanship. The whole flute is visually very pleasing. The natural edge California black Claro Walnut Burl carved Black Bear graces this fluteinto an unique work of art. Its face with shinny onyx eyes carries a kind expression. It makes me feel very comfortable to play with a Bear. There is an inlay shield with Alaskan Yellow Cedar Burl, Abalone shell and white Motherof Pearl in front of the Bear. What a thoughtful design! Bear is one of the 6 cardinal guardian fetishes which are symbolic of the 6 directions. Thefirst is the Mountain Lion which represents the North. The South belongs to the badger. The West to the Bear and the East goes to the Wolf. Additionally the mole guards the inner earth while the Eagle protects the Sky. I live in the West. This flute with the Bear is just right for me!I believe the age of Giant Sequoia and its density contribute to the exceptional sound quality of this flute. It is highly responsive. Its voice is rounded, clear, soft and very sweet. It requires very little amount of air to resonate any note in high or low volume. It is so easy to play such a big bore flute. Can not say enough how unique this flute is. I feel very lucky to have this wonderfulto play. Thank you J.P. Kurt Wuersch
