A vulnerable elderly woman has been the victim of a distraction burglary in Oldham. The 88-year-old was outside her house on Jordan Avenue, Shaw, on Monday, 7 April 2014 when a man claiming to be from the council entered her back garden. He asked for £300 to insure her car against potential damage caused by roadworks they were doing in the area, and when the victim refused he followed her into the house. He continued to demand the payment with the victim and when she noticed a second man in her property, the first offender introduced him as the boss. The pair then left using the back door. It was only later that the victim noticed that £100 was missing from her bedroom drawers. The first man is described as a white man, about 6ft tall and in his late 40s with a large build. He was wearing a yellow high-visability jacket, a peaked cap and ear muffs. The second man was white, in his late 40s and was wearing a dark suit. Detective Constable Adam Frank said: This was a targeted attack on a vulnerable member of our society. Despite the fact she refused to hand over cash, they have entered her home uninvited and distracted her for long enough to search for money. We would ask anyone else in the area who might have seen these men, or received a knock on the door from them to contact us. It happened in a quiet residential area, so we are hoping that their presence will not have gone unnoticed by others. Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 8825 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
