A warning to ALL private landlords in the Trowbridge area... Weve - TopicsExpress

A warning to ALL private landlords in the Trowbridge area... Weve recently had to evict our tenants on the grounds that they have not paid their rent for months and months - apparently due to a lack of income. Not being wealthy landlords ourselves, (the property itself was our first home, which due to the poor economy we opted to let rather than sell with negative equity) the lack of rental income and subsequent proceedings has put our own family through a great deal of financial strain and stress. To add insult to injury, we find out that whilst our tenants were in arrears they had managed to find the money to host and pay for their wedding, which considering weve had to forego holidays, etc, based on the financial strain, was extremely grating! We also found out the council refused to offer our tenants assistance based on the fact they could not prove they werent earning enough to cover the rent. We can only deduce that they had been lying about their financial position. Rather than doing the decent thing and leaving the house without fuss, they not only stole the white goods (which were brand new when we let them the property) but also maliciously damaged our house leaving us with a bill in the region of £10k to bring it back to the condition to which it was let to them. Despite a very strict no smoking policy, the house utterly stinks of smoke with nicotine yellowing on the ceiling. They decorated and evidently had a pet dog without our consent which has subsequently scratched and defaced the 150 year old interior doors. To top it off they intentionally left over 30 sacks of household waste to clear from the front garden. Its truly devastating to see our beautiful first home wrecked by unappreciative a***holes. A further warning, these people will use any sob story at their disposal to gain the sympathy vote - over multiple years, we heard it all: from the female dying of cancer, members of the family in fatal accidents, to the male dying of cancer, needless to say, both are still perfectly well and able. Having had members of my own family die of cancer, I found it quite sick that people actually felt it okay to lie about this kind of thing! So, yet again, weve had to tell our four-year old she cant have a holiday this year as weve got to spend the limited holiday time we have remedying the problems our tenants left in their wake - this year she burst into tears which hurt more than words can express! P.S. weve rung ALL the letting agents in the area to let them know of this couple.
