A weak upper level disturbance moved over southwestern California - TopicsExpress

A weak upper level disturbance moved over southwestern California today. This GOES-West 2-KM Infrared loop from 10 AM to 12:30 PM today shows a band of mid and high level clouds (bright white-colored cloud tops) moving quickly east over the area. In IR satellite imagery, it is usually hard and sometimes impossible to clearly see low clouds and fog such as those associated with the marine layer or with San Joaquin Valley Tule fog, even more so when high clouds are present. This was the case today, when visible satellite imagery was used to see the low clouds.
