A week ago I posted a few photos of a Highland Copperhead snake which I got to see while out in the field with Tim from Quickstrike Snake and Critter Services of Thornton, Victoria. One of the other critters I got to see as we were releasing it from a removal job was this little fella. This is a White-lipped snake. Much like the Lowland Copperhead and the Tiger snake, the White-lipped snake comes in a range of colours including Brick-red, grey, green and brown amongst others. While it is venomous, it is not considered dangerous to humans, though if bitten by one it is best to apply first-aid and seek medical help just in case youre one of the unlucky few to have an allergic reaction to the venom. This particular snake is one of the very few venomous snakes that I would freely handle like you see in the third photo. Please do not try it yourself, as unless youre trained and confident in handling snakes, it still can be dangerous. Heres a couple of links for you, in case youre interested in learning more about this awesome little snake: parks.tas.gov.au/?base=5283 museumvictoria.au/discoverycentre/infosheets/snakes-found-in-victoria/white-lipped-snake/
