A weekend of highs and lows. Seven highs in fact, all over 1000 - TopicsExpress

A weekend of highs and lows. Seven highs in fact, all over 1000 metres and pretty steep. The lows, the sight towards the heavens from the foot of each of these climbs. At 6am, with a warm sun on our backs, the quadrathlon began with a refreshing mile swim. A quick change and on to the mountains, 15 miles of much tougher climbing than we had anticipated. Uphill was a slow walk, often requiring hands to pull us up the steeper sections, when on the flat we ran, and downhill we ran whenever possible. At 2.15pm the sun was hot and legs were aching but we were now heading out onto the loch for a 7 mile kayak – a following breeze, and a Pina Colada (no rum) at Bikini Beach, helped our progress. On to the bikes two hours later for a 35 mile circumnavigation of the loch – hills and bad road surfaces made for a long journey to the finish. But, we did finish, at 6.24pm, taking us 12 hours 24 minutes and putting us in the top third of finish times. We were delighted and hit the Pina Coladas (with rum). The day was about testing our physical limits and raising money for charity. It is for the charity that I write now. Thank you so much for your donation, extremely kind and generous. We have so far raised over £2000 for both Mary’s Meals and Mercy Corps. We are thrilled.
