A welcome break between studying and work, with Kim Vieira and I - TopicsExpress

A welcome break between studying and work, with Kim Vieira and I braving quite dicey weather heading on to #Hermanus to search out #SouthernRightWhales and check out a few decent #Birdwatching spots at Prawn Bay in the Klein river estuary, which turned into a magical #waterbirdsurvey. One can never really know with South-Western Cape weather, it look like another one of those ominosity days, but turned into a wondrously evocative and intense day, in which the ocean clearly demonstrated its deep power pounding in the #Hermanus cliffs. Nonetheless we located 6 whales and enjoyed the antics and maternality of a mother and a calf powering their way through the strident swell. Birds were great and to see so many Forktailed Drongos and Sombre Greenbuls in and around the town was fantastic. There were in excess of 200 Greater Flamingoes paddle feeding at Prawn Bay, with large numbers of roosting Grey Heron, Cape, White-breasted and Reed Comorants. The town was abuzz with the #whalewatching season and the #WhaleCriers kudu horn was calling the watchers in aplenty. A great Saturday without a doubt.
