A while back I had posted a question about the apparent inconsistency between the age of the universe and the size of the universe - essentially if the age of the universe is about 13.8 billion years and even if matter exploded and receded at the speed limit of the speed of light after the Big Bang, the radius of the universe cannot be more than 13.8 billion light years. Turns out the radius of the (observable) universe is more like 47 billion light years - so wth?? Finally found an answer - the relativistic universal speed limit of the speed of light applies to matter, but not to space-time itself! So space-time, the fabric on which everything exists can and does expand at faster than the speed of light..one more mystery resolved. https://youtube/watch?v=myjaVI7_6Is&index=11&list=TLHBnstR6piTg . So the speed at which any pair of objects Of course more mysteries and questions are raised...what is space-time expanding into? And ya space expanding I can understand but what does the time part of space-time expanding even mean...And can we/will we use this to make space shrinking machines to bring objects closer to us at faster than the speed of light rather than making rockets that physically travel...Ah sweet mysteries - thank you Universe for being so mysterious!
