A woman suffered a broken arm after she was set upon during a vicious and unprovoked attack in Stockport. The 41-year-old woman sustained her injuries when she was attacked on Princes Street in Stockport town centre at about 3am on 19 October 2014. She was walking with her friend when they were approached by a man who came from the Wellington Road side of Debenhams and asked the pair if they had a light for his cigarette. An argument then broke out which quickly turned to violence, with the womans friend, a 20-year-old man, being headbutted and the woman herself punched in the head and kicked in the body as she lay defenceless on the floor. The severity of this attack left her needing surgery for a broken arm. Police are now appealing to anyone who has information about the attack or who knows the identity of the offender, who is described as being white, 5ft 6in tall, of a medium build with short brown hair. He was wearing jeans and a dark hooded top. Detective Constable Gareth Taylor said: The fact that the womans handbag and belongings were strewn across the floor but there was no attempt to steal them strongly suggests the offender was motivated by sheer violence. As a result of his brutal actions, this woman suffered a broken arm, not to mention the mental scars of being physically attacked in such an unprovoked and unnecessary way. We need to find this man before anyone other members of the public can fall victim to his violent tendencies so I would appeal to anyone who has information about this incident to come forward. If you witnessed what happened, or perhaps saw this man in the area asking for a cigarette, then please call us. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
